Goal 4. Synthesize theory and practice within a dynamic and evolving information environment
4a. Articulate theories and concepts in relations to information and information management
Artifacts: Privacy and Security Plan & Information Governance Framework.
Course: IM 703 Information Architecture.
During the Information Architecture course, I was exposed to Information Management theories and concepts through several assignments. For instance, under the security and privacy assignment, I was asked to approach these concepts from the development argument of a system, and into across the organization’s stakeholders. Furthermore, while I was creating an information governance framework for a grocery store I learned to build the application by interpreting theory into the mapping of the actual concepts. Another takeaway from this course, for example, is when developing a framework for any information system you always have considered how risks are associated in the Information Risk Management Plan. Part of this plan is to define the tactical and operational objectives of the organization, business risk, and cost associated with the use, ownership, and operation for such information.
4b. Demonstrate application of theory to practice by finding, evaluating, and using information resources effectively for the solution of a variety of professional problems
Artifacts: Assess Website Effectiveness of Colleges based on U.S News and World Reports & Evaluation of Academic Search Engines that use AI.
Coourse: LIS 750 Information Storage and Retrieval
In the LIS 750 course, I learned to apply basic principles to the evaluation of information resources. In one of the course assignments, I conducted a research study of top university websites in comparison to Dominican university from the U.S. News & World Report rankings. The ranking criteria for this paper was in relation to effectiveness in visibility, traffic, social media, and design. The second assignment for this course is another example of me applying learning theory to practice, in which I evaluated the general effectiveness of two academic search engines that utilize artificial intelligence (AI). I compared Semantic Scholars vs, Google Scholar in terms of their AI, design, search engine results, metrics, pros and cons.
4c-2. Apply ethical and legal principles when accessing and using information sources such as data and scholarly and profession publications
Artifact: International Internet Policy and Privacy Rights
Completed for LIS 755: Information Policy
This presentation addresses several ethical and legal principles of information resources faced in a global arena. International internet policy has been lacking comprehensive cyberlaw and comprehensive conventions and codes. During my research, I learned a great deal about international policy issues relating to the inter-organizational creation and use of information sources as it applies to legal and social issues and trans-border of data flow. This presentation prepared me to apply and articulate the importance of ethical and legal principles surrounding information sources.
