Goal 3. Envision, develop, manage, and curate information and its systems across the spectrum of human records from local to global contexts.
3a. Integrate a variety of theoretical and practice basic concepts such as management and strategic planning to analyze, develop, and evaluate a variety of information technology solutions
Artifact: AV Inventory Ticketing Management System - Project Presentation
Course: IM 760 Human Computer Interaction
This course was an excellent opportunity to integrate coursework with my professional work. In conjunction with the AV department from my organization, I was able to apply all the Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) concepts that I learned from the course into this project. Part of my investigation was related to understanding how the AV department utilizes tools and other systems to provide services to the organization. My analysis of these processes allowed me to revise how the organization interacts with these systems and the AV department. The main goal of this project was to determine appropriate interface elements, methodologies, and information architecture and to ultimately improve the AV inventory process with a system-design that is user-friendly and user-centered.
3b. Apply knowledge of system development concepts to design tools and systems that facilitate access to information and solve problems for a variety of organizations
Artifact: The World Happiness Analysis Project
Course: IM 720 Data Analytics for Information Professionals
In this course, I learned how to analyze data in order to draw conclusions and make predictions for an organization. I became familiar in the use of a number of design tools such as Python ecosystem, NumPy, Pandas, Jupyter, and Matplotlib libraries to explore and visualize data as well as make predictive models. In my final project, I used a data set from The World Happiness Analysis Report 2016, to analyze six attributes that contribute to happiness per region. Using a predicting model and a correlation matrix, the question was to find out which of these six attributes are the main contributors to happiness. The conclusion, based on my analysis of the relationship between generosity and happiness, is that there is no correlation between the two. Additionally, the most influential to the happiness score are Health, Economy, and Family. In fact, Africa is the one Region that places Generosity at the highest ranking. However, their overall happiness is ranked as the lowest.
3c. Asses applicability of current and emerging technologies to information management
Artifacts: Use-case for an Inventory Ticketing System & Design Book Review.
Course: IM 760 Human Computer Interaction
As part of this course, the Design Book Review assignment evaluated the usability design for several new emerging technologies. The technologies I chose were a wearable technology, a mobile app, and a website using HTML5. This process allowed me to understand the relationship between problem-solving, user-centered design, and prototyping. As a result, I was able to apply these human-computer interaction principles to the creation of a proposal as my final project from the use-case for an Inventory Ticketing System interface. In this proposal, I described all of the elements of the interface, system the design, user requirements, organizational environment, technology constraints, usability evaluations, and screen prototype images.
